President of Kristin Mitchell Foundation Speaks with PECO Associates

April 27th, 2017

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA – On April 26, 2017, PECO Energy provided real-life information about dating violence to its field staff. Since overall there is little unawareness of the issue of dating abuse in the public, they invited the president of the Kristin Mitchell Foundation, Bill Mitchell, to come and speak on this critical issue.

Mr. Mitchell presented a personal account of the effect of dating violence on his family. Nearly twelve years ago, Mitchell’s daughter, Kristin, was brutally murdered by her boyfriend three weeks after graduating from Saint Joseph’s University. He spoke with attendees about the warning signs and dangerous consequences of intimate partner violence.

“The people of PECO are bringing the issue of dating violence to their associates,” said Mitchell, “The horrific reality of this kind of violence is something very few people know about–which is strange since it is so prevalent. I commend PECO for addressing this insidious issue. It’s a subject people figure will never touch their lives, but it does happen often. It can touch anyone’s life at any time. Believe me, I know. When you consider that one in three women will experience serious violence in a dating relationship, typically between the ages of 16-24, that is a lot of women. If it’s not a daughter, it’s someone’s sister or neighbor.” His message is that awareness and education are the keys.

Bill Mitchell has been speaking out about dating violence since his daughter was killed by her boyfriend on June 3, 2005. Since then he has given presentations at colleges, high schools, the National Press Club, ABC’s Good Morning America, and at private companies. In May, Mr. Mitchell will return to PECO for another presentation. He also will be speaking at Wawa in Richmond in late May. Bill is always open to opportunities to tell his daughter’s story because it can save someone’s life.
