August 24th.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – On August 24, 1983, at 4:17 p.m., Kristin Marie Mitchell came into this world a beautiful baby girl.

Her four grandparents visited the hospital that evening and took turns holding and marveling. They couldn’t say enough. And we couldn’t take enough pictures and videos.

The August 24ths that followed were always welcomed and fun. The second one included chocolate cake that went just about everywhere. Kristin was rightfully the center of attention.

KM Nemo PostKristin fell in love with horses early on, starting with a rocking horse which we still have in our basement.A few years later, we had a horse brought to our backyard so all of Kristin’s friends could ride.

August 24ths meant we would be eating crabs in our backyard and enjoying Kristin for hours. Steamed crabs had become a tradition, one that we will carry on this year, too.

Thanks to emails, Facebook and Twitter, we continue to receive wonderful notes from people who remember and miss Kristin. Some notes are sad, but most are happy. We appreciate them all. Her friends love Kristin today as much as they did in life. Her following is growing daily as more and more people want to know who she is.

At 4:17 p.m., wherever we are, we will reflect upon a life cut short because of dating violence, but also a life well-lived.

She will remain a beautiful person always, and so well-loved. Born 34 years ago today, but forever 21.
