Kristin Mitchell Foundation Grants Educate about Dating Violence on College Campuses

Bala Cynwyd, PA / October 2010 – The Kristin Mitchell Foundation has awarded grants to agencies in Philadelphia and Baltimore working to educate about dating violence on college campuses

Aldersgate Youth Services Bureau plans to facilitate four workshops on dating violence, two at Gwynedd Mercy College in Gwynedd, PA and two at Manor College in Jenkintown, PA with the grant they have received.

A Women’s Place (AWP) will partner with Bucks County Community College to launch “Scholars for Safe Dating” with their grant.

University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is launching a university initiative called the “Voices Against Violence Program,” addressing the elements which perpetuate the tolerance of violence on the UMBC campus, with their grant.

Stevenson University (Baltimore) has created an eight person taskforce that will work to create procedures around responsive crisis intervention entitled “Dating Safety Initiative for Respect and Equality” (DeSIRE) with their grant.

Kristin M. Mitchell ’05 Memorial Scholarship

Bala Cynwyd, PA  – The Kristin M. Mitchell Foundation created a scholarship to honor the memory of Kristin Mitchell, a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in 2005. Following her graduation, Kristin was brutally murdered by her boyfriend. The Kristin Mitchell Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about unhealthy dating relationships.

Kristin is remembered for her leadership, commitment and engagement at Saint Joseph’s. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving undergraduate student who exemplifies the extraordinary contributions of Kristin to the University.

The Kristin M. Mitchell ‘05 Memorial Scholarship is awarded yearly. The recipient was a Saint Joseph’s University undergraduate student who exemplifies the extraordinary contributions Kristin made to SJU, and has demonstrated active involvement in Service Learning activities.

The scholarship is provided annually to a junior or senior who has demonstrated active involvement in Service Learning activities at Saint Joseph’s University in the area of domestic violence or dating violence; and/or demonstrated an active engagement in education and prevention activities in the areas of domestic violence or dating violence at Saint Joseph’s University.

The Kristin M. Mitchell scholarship for 2011 will be awarded on Saturday, October 15th at this year’s Kristin’s Krusade 5K Run/Walk.
